The Council of Mar Menor, with full respect for the functions attributed to the different organs of the Regional Administration, It will be composed of a third of representatives of the Public Administrations, for another third of representatives of the Scientific Advice Committee of Mar Menor and for another third of representatives of civil society organizations.
The Council of Mar Menor is the highest collegiate advisory and participation body in the field of integral protection of the Mar Menor. The Ministry is organized organically that have attributed environmental competencies.
Council of Mar Menor and Scientific Advice Committee
The Autonomous Community advances in the Constitution of both the Council of Mar Menor and the Scientific Advice Committeethe two governance bodies included in the Law of the Mar Menor, which are added to others already in operation such as the Inter -administrative Commission of the Mar Menor of Coordination between the General Administration of the State, the Autonomous Community and the dozen municipalities of the Vertiente basin and the Interdepartmental Commission of the Mar Menor, which coordinates the actions of the regional government.

The Minister of Environment, Universities, Research and Mar Menor, Juan María Vázquez, advanced that the Regional Government already has the formal proposals to cover 36 of the 56 members which make up both the Council of Mar Menor and the Scientific Advice Committee. “Having formal and nominative proposals for two out of three vowels is a decisive step for the implementation of both organisms,” said Vázquez.
Of the 21 members who will form the scientific advice committee of Mar Menor -14 scientists and seven technicians from the different administrations– There are already formal proposals to cover 15 of its places, more than 71 percent.
Specifically, the regional government has formal proposals from regional universities and different research agencies (Higher Center for Scientific Research (CSIC), Murcian Institute for Agricultural and Environmental Research and Development (IMIDA) or Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO), among others) to name the 14 prestigious scientific vowels accredited in any of the areas related to Mar Menorits slope or related ecosystems. Likewise, the community and the Federation of Municipalities have moved their technical vocal candidates.
It is still open until the end of the month to receive the proposals for incorporating four renowned researchers in any of the areas related to the ecosystem, as well as receiving the technical vowels from the General State Administration.
Regarding the Council of Mar Menor, there is a formal proposal of 21 of the 35 members that compose it. The Community and the Federation of Municipalities have communicated their 10 candidates, to which another 11 social representatives, which include the CROEM and COEC employers, the Chambers of Commerce, the UGT and CCOO unions, COAG, the Federation of Fishermen’s Brotherhoods, the Association of Consumers Thader, that of Hoteliers Hoytu and the community of irrigators of the field of Campo de Cartagena.
Likewise, the deadline to receive the proposals of vowels that represent environmental organizations, neighborhood associations and citizen platforms remains open, the ministry representatives are also pending. The five representatives of the Scientific Advice Committee at the Council of Mar Menor will be elected at the first constitutive meeting of the governance body itself.
The Council of Mar Menor will encourage through a very social participation the protection of the salty lagoon, balancing the environmental, economic, social and cultural objectives. Also, it will strengthen the dialogue and alliance between the three public administrations, the scientific community and civil society to develop public policies aimed at the recovery of the ecosystem, while implying civil society through an active listening process, with the objective that its concerns, alternatives and preferences are served in the decision -making process.
