The novel “The eye of the stones”By Antonio Facchiano, reveals the dark sides of the plastic recycling and the manipulation of the information. Between conspiracy and investigations, the thriller denounces the illusion of sustainability and invites us to reflect on the urgency of radical solutions to save the planet
“The eye of the stones”: a thriller between global pollution and fake news
A conspiracy on an international scale, a revolutionary technology and a race against time to unmask a deception that threatens the entire planet. “The eye of the stones” It is a thriller novel that intertwines attention to environmental pollution and the dangerous diffusion of fake news with the value of memory and the defense of historical truth.
In the background, a ferocious complaint emerges: global plastic pollution and the manipulation of information are two sides of the same threat, a poison that contaminates the earth and minds.
The story develops between 2015 and 2016, crossing Rome, Brussels and California. The investigative journalist Carmelo Lo Bianco discovers a colossal scam in the plastic recycling sector. A powerful and ruthless multinational controls the plan with a capillary network of fake news and with the elimination of anyone who tries to hinder it. Nobody has to know the truth.
Diana, an expert in research in the Deep Web, becomes Carmelo’s ally. He reveals the existence of a secret technology to him capable of storing sounds and images on the surfaces of the stones. This discovery, in addition to revealing the deception, allows you to rediscover the past through an incredible mineral memory. The title of the novel, “The eye of the stones”recalls this hidden power.
The plot
The plot revolves around an apparently revolutionary project: Atlantis. The initiative promises to absorb millions of plastic tons from the seas and rivers, recycling it to produce new plastic and synthetic concrete. An ambitious plan that convinces governments to finance the cause with large public and private funds. For twenty years, infrastructures such as dams, bridges and roads should be built with this innovative material. The project appears as a turning point in the fight against pollution and reduction of the environmental impact of the cement industry.
But reality proves to be much darkest. Atlantis technology, instead of solving the problem, worsens it. Treating plastic, it releases it again at sea in the form of microscopic particles, invisible and even more harmful. Chopped plastic degrades more quickly, released toxic substances and contaminating the food chain. The oceans, instead of being cleaned up, are transformed into an immense silent poisoning laboratory.
“Listen, I have good reasons to believe that plastic recycling is a gigantic hoax. They tell me that the Atlantis project is actually a colossal scam. You know what it is, right?”, The narrative ego reports through the words of a character.
The recycling of plastic a colossal deception
The recycling of plastic proves to be a colossal deception. Even when supported in good faith, prolongs the problem instead of solving it. As long as the plastic is produced and recycled, polluting substances will continue to disperse in the environment.
The definitive solution is the absolute prohibition of its production and use. The biodegradable alternatives already exist, but the recycling industry opposes this change, since transforming plastic into a millionaire affair is more than it is worth eliminating it.
Behind the recycling there is a huge economic machine. The same companies that produce plastic manage its disposal, creating a vicious circle in which environmental damage translates into exorbitant profits. A grotesque paradox that pushes the world towards an irreversible disaster.
“The one that floats on the hair of the sea loses small fragments that enter the biological cycle of all marine life. Some scientists speculate that in a few years, if that floating island is not removed, it will turn into a kind of plastic armor that will cover the ocean hair, suffocating it”, The narrator continues.
Thanks to the technology of the stones, Carmelo unmasks the scam and avert an ecological catastrophe. But “The eye of the stones” It is not just a history of corruption and danger. The novel also immerses itself in the personal memory of the protagonist, which rediscovers ancient pains and forgotten life fragments, kept in the walls and stones of his home. The thriller merges with intense introspection, alternating moments of high voltage with deep reflections on the truth and on the need to preserve the past to understand the present. The story unfolds between action and feeling, chaining the reader in a whirlwind of emotions to the last page.
A thriller that unmasks the illusion of recycling
“The eye of the stones” It is not only a compelling novel but a powerful accusation against one of the greatest deceptions of our time: the recycling of plastic. The work shows how the recycling industry, instead of solving the problem of pollution, foods with a vicious circle that maintains the production of plastic alive. The author highlights an uncomfortable truth: plastic would not only be recycled, but eliminated at the root.
The novel denounces the role of multinationals, which transform ecological disaster into an opportunity for profit, spreading fake news to cover the real consequences of the plastic dispersed in the environment. Particularly disturbing is the revelation that the microplasticsreleased during the shredding process, are even more dangerous, because they are invisible and capable of infiltrating the food chain.
The work raises crucial questions: are we really sure that recycling is the solution? Or is it just an illusion that extends the problem, delaying more radical measures such as the abolition of disposable plastic and the promotion of sustainable materials?
“The eye of the stones” It is a warning for readers and an invitation to action. It is not enough to believe in the solutions offered by the market: we must rethink our relationship with the environment and demand courageous political choices to stop the announced disaster.
