The Euganean Hills: A Project of Innovation and Sustainability

The first meeting of the project took place in the heart of the beautiful area of Euganean Hills, one of the most suggestive and rich in biodiversity areas of Veneto “Rinasco”PhD by the University of Padua.

On March 14, 2025, on the MUCE – Colli Euganei Museum Di Galzignano term, a large group of partners has given an important initiative that aims to combine the natural beauty of the territory with the potential offered by scientific research and innovation. The main objective is to promote a sustainable model that improves natural resources and at the same time develops solutions for improving the health and good people.

A meeting for the future of the territory

The Rinasco project (acronym that is for “Together regenerate the Nature Environment Conscious Health”) is the result of a synergy between different departments of the University of Padua and countless local and private authorities, including the regional park authority of Colli UganeiThe municipality of Galzignano Term, the Collianei Museum, the monumental garden of Valsanzio and countless actors involved in the care and improvement of the territory.

The heart of the project is the dialogue between scientific research and the concrete needs of local communities, with a special focus on health, the environment and the promotion of a culture of sustainability.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the main themes that relate to Euganean Hills: the relevant of research in health disciplines, the protection of local animal species, the relationship between agriculture and the environment and the impact of tourism on the ecosystem.

A fundamental point was the analysis of the role of tourism as a development engine for the area, but also the need for a balance with the protection of the natural environment. The recent appointment of the area that a reserve -Mab UNESCO has been interpreted as a recognition of the ecological peculiarities of the Euganeese hills, but also as a liability that is shared in the management and protection of this heritage.

A new model of sustainable development

Rinasco is not limited to a research project, but strives to become a laboratory of ideas and practices that can lead to a real change. Prof. Antonella Peruffo, curator of the meeting and professor of the Department of Comparative Biomedicin and Food, said “The meeting of Rinasco with the partners is the first step of a new way to build the landscape of the Euganean Hills, to combine research with daily life, the dream with the concreteness of the present, a goal that is accurate of the third mission of Patavino University”.

In fact, Rinasco is developing within the SO -driven third mission of universities, an approach that goes beyond education and research to also include dedication to the community and territory, aimed at a positive impact on the social and economic context. This approach is reflected in the attention that is spent on public health, the sustainability Environment and the improvement of local natural resources, but also when creating development opportunities for the future.

The importance of schools and young people

One of Rinasco’s novelties is the inclusive approach that also includes local schools. The new generations have actually been called upon to play a central role in this process of change.

The schools, represented by the Carrares Euganeo and by the Atestino IC Lozzo, have been invited to actively participate, with the intention of raising awareness among young people in the protection of the environment and the improvement of natural resources, themes that are essential for the future of the territory.

The inclusion of schools in such projects is essential to create a strong link between research, school and the community. Alderman Valeria Lunardi underlined the importance of training young people about environmental consciousness.

Innovation and involvement of the community

In addition to the most theoretical and scientific reflections, the meeting also saw moments of great popular participation. The Veterinary Medicine MuseumIn collaboration with De Puce, a special event for the little ones organized: “Here the leg!”An initiative that aims to make people think about nature and animals that populate the Euganian hills, which stimulates the interest of children.

Giuseppe Palmisano, conservative of the Museum of Veterinary Medicine of theUniversity of Padua, He explained how such events offer an opportunity to also increase awareness among families and children, who are the future of our territory, about the value of biodiversity and respect for nature.

“The activity of creating moments of” Game with Science “is now consolidated in the context of Patavino University, as evidenced by the events of the European Researchers’ Night, University Kids, Science4all and the many initiatives that have also been established by the Museum of Veterinaria” “.

A model to be repeated

Giuseppe Palmisano, conservative of the Museum of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Padua, explained how events like this offer an opportunity to increase the awareness of families and children, which are the future of our territory, about the value of biodiversity and respect for nature.

Combining scientific research with the protection of the environment and the health of people is a goal that looks at the future, but that requires the active participation of everyone.
