Viva nature: 40 eggs of species at risk and Easter surprises were born

An unprecedented result at the Natura Viva Park of Bussolengo (VR): forty eggs belonging to threatened species were laid in the weeks preceding Easter, confirming the central role of the park in the conservation of biodiversity. The eggs come from eight species of birds and two of reptiles, many of which are classified among the most at risk according to the red list of the IUCN (International Union for the conservation of nature).

The Indian royal vulture

Among the protagonists of this extraordinary event, the Indian royal vulture stands out, one of the most threatened species in the world. A female born twelve years ago at the park has laid the only European egg in a zoological context and the second recorded worldwide -the first is kept at the Korat Zoo in Thailand -. The egg is currently kept in an incubator and kept under close observation, given the severity of the condition of the species, decimated by a 91% collapse in recent decades due to the ingestion of carcasses contaminated with veterinary drugs.

The Raggituggini Raggito del Madagascar

Meanwhile, among the first hatches the rounded testuggins of the Madagascar are noted, with a small one who has just started to emerge from the shell. Their ornamental shell makes them victims of illegal trafficking, threat that adds up to deforestation and pushes them to a destiny similar to that of the royal voltoio.

The dragon of Komodo

In another section of the park, six komod dragon eggs, the largest reptile on the planet, place an intriguing mystery. A female, Padar, laid without the intervention of a male, possible thanks to a rare phenomenon of partnership. The fate of the eggs will be clear only in several months.

The hermit Ibis

Even the hermit Ibis, with their monogamous and long -lasting bonds, are contributing to hope for their species, while two manchuria crane eggs have been laid in a secluded area of the park, by a couple who has already successfully bred several small ones over the years.

In pappagalli Kea

Other animals involved in this important reproductive moment are also the Kea, New Zealand parrots known for their intelligence. In this species, the mother hatches while the father deals with nutrition, rare and fascinating behavior.

Struzzi and Barbagianni

Finally, there is no shortage of special mentions: three ostrich eggs, the largest ever among those laid, and two of Barbagianni, Italian night birds of prey whose presence in the countryside is increasingly rare, due to the impact of intensive agriculture. These 40 small symbols of hope represent much more than a simple birth: they are the result of years of commitment in the protection of endangered species and a concrete signal that, with dedication and knowledge, it is possible to write a new story for animals at risk of extinction.

Easter eggs with surprise also donated to animals

Also at the Natura Viva Park to the magic of births, the most original Easter ever for always for four -legged guests was added. During the holidays, the staff distributed hard -boiled eggs, fruit and fish packaged in creative ways, designed to stimulate the senses and skills of all kinds. From primates to great carnivores, everyone received their personal “surprise”.

Eggs to be found

For chimpanzees, the “eggs” were hidden in large bundles difficult to open, placed in strategic points to push them to use intelligence and manual skills. The catta lemuri engineed themselves with small glasses wrapped in colored paper, hanging on ropes at the top: a perfect mix between enigma and prize. Even the dragons of Komodo, already protagonists of the depositions, received eggs suitable for them, while the lions have smelled and discarded their packages with feline interest.

Finally, the giants have conquered everyone with their enthusiasm: they rolled their “Easter egg” filled with fish to the swimming pool, where they opened it playing it between the splashes of water.
