Climate index 2025: cities with the best climate in Italy

The 2025 climate index of the Sole 24 Ore has drawn up the ranking that reveals the Italian cities that offer the most pleasant weather conditions and also this year at the top there BARI

Bari at the top: the triumph of the South

Once again Bari conquers the first place in the ranking of Italian cities with the best climate of Sole 24 hoursfollowed up by Barletta-Andria-Trani and Pescara. The Adriatic coast and the South, in general, dominate the top ten: Enna, Chieti and Catanzaro also stand out.

These territories, thanks to the marine breeze, at the right alternation of rains and sunny days and a more stable temperature, offer ideal climatic comfort. But how do you measure the perfect climate?

The 2025 climate index and fifteen indicators

The climate index is based on Fifteen different indicatorsall weighed in the same way. It is not just about temperature and sunshine, but also of less visible but fundamental phenomena, such as the quality of the summer breeze, the frequency of tropical nights (with temperatures above 20 ° C), the accumulation of intense rains and the number of days of stagnant air.

The latter parameter is particularly important: less wind and less rain mean even more difficulties in dispersing pollutants, directly influencing the quality of the air we breathe.

The champions (and tail lights)

Agrigento stands out for the greatest number of hours of daily sunshine (9.2 hours on average), while Belluno is the city with more cold days and higher humidity out of climatic comfort.

Venice shines to have few extreme heat peaks (only 0.4 days above 35 ° C on average every year), while Terni records even 45.5 days a year of torrid temperatures.

Among the big cities, Venice (15th), Cagliari (26th), Naples (28th) and Rome (47th) are positioned discreetly. Instead, Milan, Bologna and Florence slipped into the lower part of the ranking, due to increasingly extreme temperatures and poor air circulation.

Extreme events growing according to the climate index

One of the most alarming data that emerged concerns the increase in extreme climatic events: shorter but violent rains, longer soring periods, increasing tropical nights. From the comparison between 2010 and 2024, the change appears evident, with an increasingly exposed Italy to the whims of the climate.

This trend especially penalizes the internal areas and some provinces of the North, which have seen their climatic conditions worse in the last ten years.

The Italian climate, like the rest of the world, is evolving. The ranking of the climate index shows us not only where we live better today, but also where it will be necessary to intervene more tomorrow, with urban and environmental strategies aimed at contrasting global warming and guaranteeing health conditions for everyone.
