SIGAUS Forest: the Guadarrama City Council inaugurates the twelfth ‘forest’ in the La Vega area

SIGAUS Forestthe Guadarrama City Council has chosen the plot known as “La Vega”, located between the “La Serrana” Urbanization, the Fray Luis de León Complex and San Macario Street, for the planting of the twelfth ‘SIGAUS Forest’.

This new green space, with an area of ​​3.72 hectares, is home to 1,000 new trees of various species already present in the area, adding to this natural environment 300 stone pines (Pine tree), 100 olmos (Elm resist), 100 level castles (Acer campestre), 100 oaks (Quercus ilex), 100 melon oaks (Quercus pyrenaica), 100 hunter rowans (A sip of acuparía), 100 cork oaks (Quercus suber) and 100 specimens of common walnut (The royal juggler).

To inaugurate the twelfth ‘SIGAUS Forest‘An official visit has been made to the plantation, which was attended by Diosdado Soto, mayor of Guadarrama, and Buenaventura González del Campo and Eduardo de Lecea, President and General Director of SIGAUS respectively.

The President of SIGAUS He highlighted that this is a project that the entity takes care of with care: “We care about the introduction of native and environmentally efficient species, ensuring a legacy that lasts over time for future generations.”

This new wooded area, which represents a valuable environmental investment and contributes to improving the quality of life in the municipality, is marked with two signs that detail the agreement between SIGAUS and the Guadarrama City Council, as well as the environmental benefits of the different species of trees planted.

“With this new agreement with the Guadarrama City Council, we have already managed to reforest a total of 38 hectares thanks to the Corporate Social Responsibility project”SIGAUS forests“, which already has 12,000 trees planted since 2012, and with which we try to promote the care and preservation of our natural environment,” in the words of the General Director of SIGAUSEduardo de Lecea.

In addition to the supply and planting of the 1,000 trees, SIGAUS has been responsible for the installation of a drip irrigation system that will guarantee the supply of water to all the planted specimens, and will assume the necessary replacement (replacement of dead or in poor condition specimens) after the first summer period after the plantation, to guarantee the commitment made to provide the municipality with this new urban forest of 1,000 trees.

Through a contest on social networks SIGAUS1,000 participants will be able to name each of the trees in the new SIGAUS Forestwhich will be labeled with the name selected by the contestants.

New this year and in line with the maximum commitment of SIGAUS With sustainability and rigor in all its actions, the labels will be made from a 100% natural material such as cork, durable and respectful of the environment.

“Our reason for being is the protection of the environment. Therefore, also in our work beyond the waste management that we are entrusted with, we are absolutely rigorous.

In Guadarrama, we have carefully chosen the species that make up the forest, we have carried out our plantation at the most appropriate time of year, we will replenish it after the first summer period and we have selected materials of 100% natural origin for the production of the labels that will identify each one of the trees” – says Eduardo de Lecea.

The trees can also be visited virtually through the ‘SIGAUS Forests’ project website, where the winners will be able to see a photograph of their labeled tree, the characteristics of the planted species, the certificate that accredits the plantation, in addition to the geographical coordinates and location in a cartographic viewer with which they will have an aerial view of the plantation.
