The benefits of the campaign “Green Mosaic”
Beyond 330 thousand plants planted, 211 green areas redevelopedrestoration of forests and protection of biodiversity This is what emerges from the data presented during the event Green Mosaic Ecosystemwhich took place in Rome on May 16, during the Sustainable Development Festival 2024 Of ASVIS to celebrate the sixth anniversary of the national campaign Green Mosaic.
It is a series of interventions that generate a benefit economic and social of over 1.7 million euros per year for each year of life of the tree and shrub systems.
An ecosystem vision
The conference illustrated the ecosystem vision of the Campaign, which includes the regeneration of forestsfrom the urban green areas and the protection of natural habitats, with attention to territorial specificities and the involvement of institutions, associations, local committees, employees and residents.
So far, fifty companies have supported Green Mosaic integrating it into their Corporate Social Responsibility strategies, recognizing that such contributions are fundamental to the health of the planet and to improving relationships with their stakeholders.
The successes of the campaign
Sandro ScollatoCEO of AzzeroCO2underlined that, in a global context characterized by increasingly urgent environmental challenges, the protection of biodiversity and ecosystems is a fundamental defense.
He explained that their loss involves a ecological crisis significant and a direct risk to collective well-being. In six years, the Campaign has gone from a reforestation project to an integrated model for the protection and enhancement of ecosystems.

Thanks to the companies who believed in this project, we have redeveloped more than 3.3 million square meters of green areas, with the involvement of over 122 Municipalities and 32 Park Authorities in 17 different Italian regions: each intervention is unique, but supports a common objective of resilience and sustainability».
Circular Health: a new approach
He participated in the event Ilaria Capuainternationally renowned virologist and essayist, lecturer at Johns Hopkins University SAIS Europe. His speech focused on the topic “Circular health: a way of thinking” highlighted how this is a systemic approach that is based on the paradigm One Healthrecognizing, in addition, the need for a multidisciplinary convergence effort that goes beyond the biomedical dimension of health.

Urgency and protection of biodiversity: IPBES data
According to theIPBES (Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services), approximately 75% of the terrestrial environment and 66% of the marine environment have been significantly altered by human action, making effective protection of biodiversity urgent.
Mosaico Verde’s goal is to hold up territories in the preservation of threatened ecosystems, preventing fires and protecting landscapes, restoring the natural balance.
Specific initiatives: ecosystem protection and fire prevention
Preserving ecosystems means to protect native plants and crops from the threats of climate changessuch as parasites and diseases, which put entire centuries-old crops at risk.
For example, in Puglia a project is being carried out in collaboration with Unaprol aimed at strengthening the resistance of monumental olive trees against the Xylella Fastidiosa bacterium.
Likewise, preventing fires and regenerating the affected areas is fundamental to safeguarding Italy’s ecosystem richness, as demonstrated by the interventions carried out in Sardinia after fires devastated almost 75 thousand hectares of territory in 2023.
