A conference on sustainable cosmetics to raise consumer awareness

in recent days, all’Bocconi University of Milan, a conference entitled Beauty, well-being and sustainability: role, objectives and contributions of the cosmetics industryorganized by GEO – Green Economy Observatory of Bocconi University, in collaboration with Cosmetica Italia.

The event, part of Milano Beauty Week 2024explained how cosmetics and respect for the planet can go hand in hand for the realization of a sustainable future.

The Observatory on the sustainability of the cosmetics sector

During the meeting, the first one was presented Observatory on sustainability in the cosmetics sectoredited by Fabio Iraldo of Bocconi University and the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa. The focus of the Observatory is to monitor, report and enhance existing sustainability practices, and push the market for continuous improvements.

The cosmetics industry, represented by multinationals and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), is demonstrating a ever greater commitment in the use of actions that contribute to reducing waste and using environmentally friendly materials. Challenges, objectives and opportunities in green cosmetics

During the conference, two round tables dedicated to sustainability and the role of cosmetic companies were held. Among the participants, Stefano Brun di Shiseido Emea, Amber Martone of ICR Cosmetic Industry Assembled and Domenico Scordari from N&B Natural is Better shared their experiences and challenges in making production greener.

One of the fundamental objectives that emerged from the conference was to show how the sustainabilityin addition to being a moral obligationcan become a competitive lever for businesses. The cosmetics sector is in fact increasingly oriented towards investing in sustainable innovationwhich includes not only more natural formulas, but also reduced and biodegradable packaging.

It is important to raise awareness to make the world of beauty known not only from an aesthetic point of view, but also from a moral point of view.

Second John Chave, General Manager of Cosmetics Europethe regulatory evolution of the European Union will push companies even further towards sustainable practices, thanks to projects such as “Commit for Our Planet”which aims at a common commitment on the part of all industrial entities.

He couldn’t miss the conference Gilberto Pichetto FratinMinister of the Environment and Energy Security, who, at the end, underlined the importance of institutional support in encouraging the transition of companies to a more sustainable model.
