Forest fires: Nactiva has participated in the FIRE-RES General Assembly

From the hand of the Forest Science and Technology Center of Catalonia (CTFC), lto Nactiva collective platform has participated in the international event that was held this week in Bordeaux. It has focused on prevention, innovation, and control of the risk of forest fires.

Nactiva, from the Forest Science and Technology Center of Catalonia (CTFC)has participated in the General Assembly of FIRE-RES, an international event focused on innovation, prevention and control of the risk of forest fires. The congress, held this week in Bordeaux and Mimizan (France), has brought together a hundred experts from the forestry sector, European institutions, local actors and companies specialized in impact projects to address the latest advances in the management of resilient landscapes and the fire prevention.

The CEO of NactiveJoan Cabezas, has had a prominent role in the presentation entitled “Financial innovation at the service of sustainable solutions”, conceived within the framework of the sessions on “Financing of resilient landscapes”. The expert has shared the stage with Tessa Maurer, director of Scientific Strategy at Blueforest, a non-profit organization dedicated to financing conservation. Together they have presented success stories that show how innovative financial instruments can boost sustainable and resilient solutions to the threat of forest firess, in addition to addressing crucial issues such as the regeneration of landscapes through effective economic models.

During the presentation, Joan Cabezas detailed how Nactiva develops projects that mobilize investments towards regeneration and sustainable management of forestsintegrating the environmental and social value of these ecosystems. “Our goal is to make sustainable solutions economically viable in the long term, connecting different actors, such as investors, companies and local agents, with projects that not only generate environmental benefits, but also an economic and social return,” he said.

The participation of Nactive At this event, he underlines his commitment to advancing financial models that support the creation of resilient landscapes and forest fire preventions, an increasingly urgent challenge in the context of climate change. Along these lines, the collective platform has an area of ​​forests, called Nactive Forests, whose objective is to implement projects for the protection, conservation, forest management and regeneration of Mediterranean forests.

Currently, it has the MedForest 360 program underway, an initiative focused on multifunctional forest management to regenerate hectares in the Sierra de Collserola (Barcelona). The purpose is to increase the capacity to host biodiversity, enhance water recovery, mitigate the spread of fires and promote the capture of CO2.

It is also collaborating with the Hub Forestal de Catalunya project, aimed at promote the bioeconomy and the market for products derived from forest managementtogether with the Forest Science and Technology Center of Catalonia (CFTC).

A hundred participants against fire

The General Assembly of FIRE-RES has had more than 100 participants, including key institutions such as the CTFC (Forest Science and Technology Center of Catalonia), the INRAe (National Institute for Agricultural, Food and Environmental Research of France) and local actors involved in fire management and prevention, such as the SDIS (French Departmental Fire and Relief Service) and the DFCI (Forest Fire Defense). The conferences have addressed operational challenges, as well as the oeconomic opportunities that arise from the creation of resilient landscapespromoting greater collaboration between the public-private sector.

The event has also offered each of the attendees the opportunity to learn about the operational techniques used in the French southwest, in addition to visiting a local wood treatment industry. In the Landes de Gascogne, which is a historic region in the south of France, participants were able to learn first-hand about the economic challenges faced by the Gascons.
