Andalusia participates in the I Meeting of Autonomic General Directors of the Environment and presents its forest policy and conservation of protected spaces

Los protected spaces are all those land or marine areas That, in order to recognize their outstanding natural values, they are specifically dedicated to the conservation of nature and, therefore, subject to a special legal regime for their protection.

Each Protected space plays a decisive function for ecosystems conservation and the survival of biodiversity. They are also vital for the maintenance of the ecological processes and the goods and services that they provide, so it is crucial that the autonomous communities preserve and protect them through special plans.

Andalusia: forest policy

The Junta de Andalucía has participated in the I Meeting of Autonomous General Directors of the Environment Area, which has been held in the Monfragüe National Park. In this work forum, Andalusia has transferred the policies and strategies that have promoted since 2019 for the protection and conservation of the Protected natural spaces, forest management, biodiversity and sustainable hunting.

On behalf of the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment, the Director General of Protected Natural Spaces, José Enrique Borrallo, and the Director General of Forest Policy and Biodiversity, Juan Ramón Pérez Valenzuela, have intervened, who have exhibited the Andalusian Management Model of these areasbased on the protection of natural resources, Adaptation to climate change and the sustainable development of rural territories.

José Enrique Borrallo stressed that the Junta de Andalucía has worked continuously in improving the management of its national and natural parks, as a whole. Has stressed that the regional administration has promoted conservation, restoration and sustainable actionsalways with the objective of compatible with the protection of the environment with the socio -economic development of the municipalities of the areas of influence of these spaces.

In this sense, he explained that Andalusia has consolidated a model in which the planning and participation of all the agents involved have been fundamental. He recalled that the community has one of the networks of broader protected natural spaces in Europewhich has been a great challenge in terms of conservation, but also an opportunity to enhance sustainable tourism, traditional uses and environmental education.

The example of protection

Juan Ramón Pérez Valenzuela has underlined the relevance of forest management to conserve biodiversity and combat climate change. Thus, he stressed that the Junta de Andalucía has promoted measures to regenerate Montes, protect them from fires and pests, and promote the sustainable use of wood. In addition, he has stressed that this forest policy not only retains ecosystems, but also generates rural employment, fixed population in unpopulated areas and encourages responsible use of natural resources.

Precisely, the meeting has also been approached the importance of hunting as a management tool and balance in ecosystems. At this point, the Andalusian pact for hunting reached in 2022 has valued, and which has already reached 65% of the commitments acquired, being the rest of the points in process.

Pérez has detailed the actions implemented by the Junta de Andalucía for the monitoring of fringílida bird populations in the region and the possible development of silvestrismo. These initiatives focus on strengthening the scientific study of Fingílidos populations in certain Andalusian regions and in analyzing the viability of its breeding in captivity. Several autonomous communities showed interest in the results and expressed their willingness to join the conclusions obtained.

Both general directors have agreed that cooperation between Autonomous Communities is essential to face the challenges common in matters of sustainability and conservation. They have highlighted the importance of sharing experiences and strategies to guarantee the best possible management of protected natural spaces and have expressed their willingness to continue working in this line with the rest of the administrations.

The meeting, held in a emblematic environment such as Monfragüe National Park, It has served to put in common the policies that each territory has developed in the field of environment and biodiversity. Among other matters, the Law on Restoration of Nature and its involvement for the Autonomous Communities, hunting in the National Parks or the Natura 2000 Network has been addressed.

It has also been dialogued on different species such as the Lince, where Andalusia has led the European recovery program; the bear, the management of the salmon or the wolf and the eastern hornet; The review of the use and management plans or the green infrastructure strategy. Andalusia has reaffirmed its leadership in management and conservation of protected natural spaceswith a committed commitment to sustainability and balance between the preservation of the environment and the socioeconomic development of its territories.
