OIPA: “MATTEO SALVINI’S LEAGUE OBSTACLES THE BRAMBILLA LAW PROPOSAL TO TAKE UP THE PENALTIES, HE SINKS THE AMENDMENT FOR THE ABOLITION OF BOTTLES AND WOULD LIKE THE DEREGULATION OF HUNTING”

L’International Organization for Animal Protection (OIPA) took part in the national demonstration in Milan on Sunday 25 February afternoon: “The law ignores animals.”

Supporters marched in support of the Proposal of Law No. 30promoted by the deputy Michela Vittoria Brambilla and signed by parliamentarians of almost all political parties.

This proposal provides for theharshening of penalties for those who kill or mistreat animals. Currently, the proposal is being examined by the House Judiciary Committee, but it is hindered by the League despite Matteo Salvini’s public declarations, which are not supported by facts.

The League against the repeal of article 70 of the Highway Code

On the other hand, the League rejected the amendment which aimed to eliminate wheelchairs and bottles during the session of the Transport Commission of the Chamber of Deputies of Last February 20th.

The refusal of Northern League speaker Elena Maccanti and the favorable opinion of the Government blocked the amendment of theParliamentary intergroup for animal rights and environmental protection, promoted by its president Brambilla. The Intergroup proposed the repeal of thearticle 70 of the Highway Code – or “Square service with animal-drawn vehicles or sleds” -, which would have suppressed this activity.

Therefore, small carts and carriages will still be able to circulate in the historic centers of cities, jeopardizing the lives of poor horses forced to tow heavy carriages in all weather conditions, in traffic and in the air pollution of cities such as Rome, Florence, Palermo, Messina and Pisa .
