He Asturian mountain of Ibias is the last bastion of the Massif Central and its highest peak is El Pico Miravales with its 1,969 meters of altitude, although it has several more that are chosen for those who like mountain tourism and ecotourism.
In the council of Ibias the 75% of its territory is occupied by forest areaso the importance of this sector is undeniable and is the source of the majority of the council’s income. Managing it appropriately is one of the main objectives of this aid.
Public mountains of Ibias
The Ministry of Rural Environment and Agrarian Policy invests 2,430,000 euros in the improvement of the public forests of the council of Ibias. Most of these funds are allocated to three projects that are funded by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the European Union:

- Recovery of high altitude grasslands: 125,000 euros. Already executed.
- Recovery of habitats in the Torga and Valárcel mountains: One million. Already executed.
- Improvement of forest masses for CO2 fixation: 966.3000 euros. It will be launched throughout this year.
The counselor, Marcelino Marcos, announced these data today during the visit he made to the council of Ibias, accompanied by the general director of Forest Management, Javier Vigil. This forestry investment pursues two priority objectives: on the one hand, the development of the forest; on the other hand, support for the livestock sector through the creation of more area for pastures. Furthermore, it promotes the prevention of fires, by eliminating combustible brush, and reforestation is carried out to improve wooded areas.
Added to these actions are other measures worth more than 330,000 euros financed by the Principality. Specifically, 121,000 euros have been allocated to a work of prevention of forest fires in the Ibias mountains, which is currently executed by the company Medioambiental Valledor. Previously, in 2024, the tracks in the council’s mountains were improved with an investment of 130,918 euros.


In addition, the clearing and improvement of infrastructure in the Uría and Marco mountains was put out to tender, with an investment of 64,000 euros, and reviewed the planning projects for local forests in common hands of Braña de Leituelos and Tremo and Villarcebollín, for an amount close to 23,000 euros.
The counselor has announced that this year The works on the Lagua road network will be put out to tenderendowed with 190,274 euros, in order to repair five roads with a length of 4 kilometers. This parcel concentration will be the eighth to be carried out in the council in the last ten years. In total, 478,956 euros have been invested in these actions.
