The Department of Environment and Climate Change of the Xunta de Galicia has valued the effort that has been made by Augas de Galicia in order to contribute to the climate neutrality goalreducing the water footprint of the entire community.
Work by Augas de Galicia
During her intervention at the Governing Council of Augas de Galicia, the councilor stressed that correct water management is vital to advance in compliance with sustainable development goals (SDGs) marked at a global level by the so-called Agenda 2030. In this sense, it is worth remembering that in the Community, the evolution in the section of Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG number 6) stands out, especially.
In fact, in the case of water sanitation, this goal is considered achieved thanks to measures promoted by the Xunta such as the Galician water management plans to achieve affordable and equitable supply and purification services or other planning documents to deal with aspects such as drought, the risk of floods or the hydroelectric use of natural resources.
And to continue consolidating a green and sustainable Galicia that is the focus of the Xunta’s transversal action, the budget for next year of the autonomous basin body includes, as Ángeles Vázquez stated, an “ambitious action program that allows addressing current challenges and the futures in water cycle management«.
Along these lines, the councilor stressed that Augas de Galicia will have a budget of 144 million euros to continue working on the improvement of this fundamental resource for the territory. Thus, among other issues, a significant investment will be made in sanitation and supply through the improvement of infrastructure, the execution of active response to climate change and training and dissemination to raise awareness about efficient water management both for professional managers and for citizens in general.
Furthermore, after emphasizing the Galician Government’s commitment to the development of infrastructure in rural areas and to continue advancing in the sanitation of the estuaries, the minister emphasized the boost that will be given next year to the green infrastructure with the design of controlled flood zones. In fact, this same week the Consello da Xunta authorized allocating 2 million euros to draft the first projects in this area.
The budget for next year of the autonomous body Augas de Galicia includes an ambitious action program that will allow them to address current and future challenges in water cycle managementbased on sustainability and resilience.
