BayWa stimulates solar energy in Tarquinia (Italy)

To promote the energy transition in Italy, the company BayWa re recently announced the solar park located in Tarquiniawhich has more than 94,000 solar panels and will produce 51.4 MWp.

The power station consists of more than 94,000 fixed solar panels that supply electricity from renewable sources to more than 35,000 households. BayWa re not only took care of the development of the park and all permitting phases, but also its construction installation of photovoltaic panels. Once the works are completed, the company will be responsible for the operation and maintenance (O&M) of the solar park.

Betting on solar energy

During the development of the project, important compensatory measures to improve the integration of the solar park with the environment. These include the construction of an artificial pond to promote aquatic microhabitats suitable for the colonization of amphibians, other aquatic vertebrates and macroinvertebrates.

In addition, existing dry stone walls have been retained and restored to maintain the integrity of the landscape and promote local biodiversity. The planting of native plant species is also planned creating ecological corridors and improving ecological connectivity with the nearby natural landscapes.

Alessandra Toschi, CEO of BayWa re Italia, commented: “The completion of the Tarquinia solar park represents a crucial step in our efforts to drive the energy transition in Italy. This project shows that it is possible to actively contribute to the decarbonization of the country, while respecting the unique characteristics of the region. We are proud that this is possible supply sustainable energy to more than 35,000 householdswhile contributing to improving biodiversity and preserving the landscape.”

Céline Tran, Regional Project Director for South West Europe at BayWa re, added: “It is fantastic to see this solar farm coming into operation after the remarkable efforts of our Italian team. We are deeply committed to this attractive market, as evidenced by our activities onshore and offshore wind, photovoltaic and storage equipment”.

Italy, like the rest of the countries in the bloc, aims to comply with the European Union’s mandates regarding the expansion of sustainable energy in general and solar energy in particularthanks to its privileged location with thousands of hours of sunlight per year.
