Common Energy: the national observatory of energy communities

ECODES presents Community energy, an initiative promoted with the support of Redeia, a global operator of essential energy and telecommunications infrastructure. Community energy search accelerate the creation of energy communities with social and environmental impactthrough the implementation of an ecosystem that promotes knowledge, enables the exchange of experiences, the generation of networks and collective intelligence.

Las energy communities are crucial nodes in driving the ecological transition and represent an emerging paradigm for this enables citizens to play an active role in energy management and production. In communities, in addition to sharing the energy installation, a space for dialogue is created that reflects a shared vision of sustainability and redefines the way resources are conceived, generated and consumed.

To facilitate its development, Common Energy provides resources and the necessary support to create, manage and optimize joint energy projects. Likewise, it provides information on European, national and regional legislation relating to the production, distribution and consumption of shared energy and a section detailing the aid and subsidies available to launch energy communities.

A group of experts from leading entities on various topics related to the change in the energy model also participate in the promotion of this initiative.

In this context, the Executive Director of ECODES, Víctor Viñuales, recalls that “at the last climate summit, the international community – including oil-producing countries – agreed for the first time that renewable energy sources should be tripled.”

“Las energy communities Local communities contribute to this objective with a collective, decentralized and participatory response. That is why at ECODES we put all our efforts into promoting their development. Furthermore, they aim to generate environmental, economic and social benefits, reaching even the most vulnerable populations.

Beyond the collective self-consumptionenergy communities can develop other activities that play a key role in the energy transition. Despite all this, we will continue to work tirelessly to promote it,” Viñuales explains.

For his part, Antonio Calvo Roy, Sustainability Director at Redeia, emphasizes that “in light of the global problem of climate change, the more people are aware of the importance of developing renewable energy, the better.

Every initiative counts energy communities They are an excellent way for citizens who want to bring about changes in society.

Supporting knowledge about the evolution of the energy system transformation with the help of ECODES, with so much experience in initiatives close to the citizen, is in line with Redeia’s goal.”

Another purpose of Community energy is to offer an x-ray of the impact and evolution in Spain of these figures. The observatory, a pioneer in Europe, provides the most complete information to date on these collective initiatives. Economic, energy, social and governance indicators are displayed via an interactive map at both the national and provincial levels, with data based on the analysis of more than 350 energy communities across the country.

This observatory is a living space which will integrate and update the data it provides as new communities are detected and included.

Another one of the singularities of Community energy is that it is recognized as one of the Community Transformation Offices (OTC) of the IDAE. This means that it offers every citizen, SME or local government information, advice and support services for creating and managing energy communities.

To facilitate access to this service, Community energy It offers it throughout the national territory in online mode, although it also has personal offices in Aragon.
