Egoin installs photovoltaic installations on the roofs of its production facilities

Egoin Wood Group, the timber construction and engineering firm, has completed the implementation of several covers photovoltaic solar energy in the production plants in Albertia and Goiain, located in Legutio, in the Basque province of Araba (Álava).

This project reaffirms the Basque company’s commitment to the use of renewable energy to move towards sustainable and efficient electricity production, reduce the CO2 footprint and adapt to the objectives of the European Union’s energy transition.

The Goiain factory, whose installation was carried out between January and July 2023, has a capacity of 1,000 kWp, distributed over 1,830 solar panels, achieving a solar coverage of 21.5% of the factory’s total consumption and preventing emissions into the atmosphere of approximately 450,000 kg of CO₂ per year.

For its part, the photovoltaic installation is in deck The factory in Albertia, which was installed between March and December last year, also has a capacity of 1,000 kWp and the same number of modules. This plant achieves a solar coverage on consumption of 15.8%, with a estimated reduction in CO₂ emissions of 460,000 kg per year.

In this sense, this operation will reduce the environmental impact of the production processes, avoiding the emission of more than 900,000 kg of carbon, which at the same time covers a quarter of the electricity needs of both factories. through solar energy. The total investment in this project amounts to €1,240,000 and has been financed with support from the European Union under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, through the Next Generation EU Funds.

Environmental and economic benefits of roofs

The initial investment will be recouped around 2031, although the Goiain plant will reach this breakeven point in 2028 and the Albertia plant in 2027. From then on, the project will start to generate net benefits. Thanks to this installation, Egoin estimates that it will achieve annual economic savings of almost €190,000 by 2036, significantly contributing to the profitability of the operation.

The implementation of these photovoltaic installations not only represents progress in Egoin’s commitment to the environment, but also consolidates its position as a leader in the sustainable wood construction sector.integrating innovative solutions and responsible in their production processes.

This project of this one covers photovoltaic solar energy is part of the incentive program related to self-consumption and storage with renewable energy sources, as well as the implementation of renewable thermal systems in the residential sector, within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, funded by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU funds.

Sustainability through principles

The commitment to sustainability is a transversal axis in Egoin’s entire philosophy and activity. Most of the wood they use comes from forestry companies from cultivated and exploited forests according to ecological criteriawhich are also located in their nearest environment, allowing them to further reduce transport expenditure and CO2 emissions.

This forest management, which is closely linked to curbing the effects of climate change, aims to achieve harmony between the economic, environmental and social benefits of forests. Together with the use of resources, it has become the best guarantee for preservation and renewal of our forests.

The wood from the sustainable forest management is gaining prominence in the construction of different types of facilities. If, in addition, to industrialize it, renewable energy sources are used, in this case via covers photovoltaic solar energy, the commitment to sustainability is complete.
