European Hydrogen Week: Navarra applies for the development of green hydrogen

Representatives of the Government of the Foral Community of Navarra were present in Brussels at the celebration of the ‘European Hydrogen Week’, where they declared that their region is one of the regions in Europe with the most potential when it comes to development of green hydrogen and related technologies.

The Minister of Industry and the Ecological and Digital Business Transition, Mikel Irujo, has visited the ‘European Hydrogen Week’ fair held this week in Brussels, in which 6 companies and technology centers are participating in a mission to promote the development of hydrogen. the green hydrogen in the Foral community. During his visit, Irujo emphasized that “Navarre is one of the European regions with the greatest potential for the development of green hydrogen.”

In addition, the consultant highlighted the ecosystem that Navarre has for its development energy vector, essential for the decarbonization of large companies. “Green hydrogen will not only become a source for our industry to decarbonize, but it will also add value to our community,” Irujo said.

“Already at the moment We have two projects in development and that they represent an investment of 157 million euros,” concluded Irujo. The companies Acciona Plug, Nordex Electrolyzers, Alkeymia, the Navarre Industry Association (AIN) and the CENER technology center participated in the mission.

Two projects are already underway in Navarre related to green hydrogen. The first is led by Acciona Plug and envisages the construction of a 25 MW electrolyzer capable of producing a total of 3,880 tons of green hydrogen per year. A total associated investment of 87 million euros is expected for this.

Secondly, Nordex Electrolyzers is implementing an Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI), which consists of development of electrolyzers with proprietary technology (Alkaline). This implementation will require an investment of 70 million euros over 8 years and will create 150 direct jobs.
