FIREPOCTEP+ is a European project that is being co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and which is developed under the framework of the Interreg VI-A Spain-Portugal Cross-Border Cooperation Program 2021-2027 (POCTEP) to fight forest fires.
Its main objective is to comprehensively strengthen the forest fire prevention and extinction systems that are located in the La Raya region. On the other hand, it also seeks to improve the capacity of the affected landscapes so that are resilient and can adapt and recover from these events.
FIREPOCTEP+ against forest fires
The General Directorate of Fire Prevention and Extinction of the Ministry of Forest Management and Rural World has joined the ‘Firepoctep+’ project as a partner for the purpose to strengthen the fight against forest fires in La Raya.


The cross-border cooperation project ‘Firepoctep+ Resilient landscape in the face of large forest fires’ is an emergency response initiative and improvement of interoperability and operational and social training in the face of climate change. Its objective is to strengthen forest fire prevention and extinction systems in the cross-border region between Spain and Portugal, known as La Raya.
This project is co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) within the framework of the Interreg VI-A Spain-Portugal Cross-Border Cooperation Program 2021-2027 (POCTEP). ‘Firepoctep+’ was designated as a project of strategic importance by the Interreg Program Committee monitoring team.


Led by the University of Vigo, this innovative project has a total budget of 3,322,468.75 euros, a duration of three years (01/01/2024-12/31/2026) and a total of 15 beneficiaries from Spain and Portugalas well as three unfunded partners.
These partners are institutions from both sides of the border, foundations and universitiesincluding the University of Extremadura, which has been a partner since the beginning of the project. The Government of Extremadura, through the General Directorate of Fire Prevention and Extinction, joins as a partner without financing.
