Galicia is focusing on offshore wind energy

Nicolás Vázquez, Secretary General of Industry and Energy Development of Galicia, took part in the GOinterHUB, in the VII Galician Offshore International Hub. Where he emphasized that the Galician community is committed to this renewable energy sources, especially offshore wind.

The Secretary General of Industry and Energy Development, Nicolás Vázquez, today emphasized the Xunta’s commitment to renewable energy sources to promote decarbonization and in the energy transition process.

Nicolás Vázquez took part in the VII Galician Offshore International Hub (GOinterHUB), where he highlighted the model that the development of the Xunta based on the binomial industry energy with the aim of linking future industrial development in Galicia to renewable energy sources to generate prosperity in the area.

This objective is set out in the Act for the Promotion of the Social and Economic Benefits of projects that they make use of Galicia’s natural resources approved this week by the Galician Parliament and which will allow the development of exploitation projects that will promote industry while delivering improvements for Galician citizens and the areas in which they are carried out.

In the same line, he explained that marine energies, and specifically offshore wind energy, will play an important role and emphasized that in the northwest of Spain there is a high-capacity value chain that is already developing offshore wind energy and that will continue to grow in the coming years.

During his speech, he also emphasized the importance of the areas marine energy experiments to make progress in a “fundamental sector within the binomial energy industry”, but always guaranteeing coexistence and compatibility with the marine environment and with the activities already carried out.

In this sense, he highlighted the opportunity that the development of offshore wind energy offers to the Galician Community, with the advantage that the knowledge acquired thanks to Punta Langosteira maritime energy experimental platform promoted by the Galician government.

As he explained: “Having a testing area where activities that promote technological development and studies related to the marine environment, biodiversity and renewable energy sources “They will enable them to continue making progress in the energy, environmental and socio-economic fields,” he assured.

Finally, Nicolás Vázquez emphasized the need for active cooperation between government departments, since they are the ones who should support the early stages of the development of new technologies through regulations, European projects and financing.
