The territorial delegate of the Xunta in Pontevedra, Agustín Reguera, visited the Community of Montes de Aguasantas this morning, in the town hall of Cerdedo-Cotobade. This was one of the communities that received one of the aid from the Ministry of the Rural Environment to the regeneration and/or improvement in consolidated masses of native hardwoods and for its sustainable forest management in 2023.
Thanks to this contribution of nearly 30,000 euros, the community was able to carry out “forestry actions to prevent damage caused to forests by fires, natural disasters and for the increase in the adaptive capacity and environmental value of forest ecosystems«.
The territorial delegate took advantage of the visit to remember the mountain communities benefited by the call for the year 2024. In this sense, it is worth noting that in the Cerdedo-Cotobade city council, up to seven different mountain communities benefited from the last call for this aid, which were granted a total contribution of more than 150,000 euros. Among them, the community of Corredoira; Carballedo; Santa María de Sacos; San Xurxo de Sacos, Viascón; Loureiro and Chamadoira. In the total territorial area of Pontevedra, these aid left close to 450,000 euros distributed by 23 entities.
The territorial delegate highlighted the importance of this aid that “provides resources to forest communities that carry out increasingly necessary work.” In this sense, Reguera wanted to highlight the need to “continue maintaining a clean and prepared forest to reduce the risk of fires and their aggressiveness as much as possible«.
