The General Director of Energy Planning and Mining, Pablo Fernández Vila, participated on behalf of the Xunta de Galicia in the development of a cross-border mobility technology corridor for renewable hydrogen. It was presented at the Cetmar headquarters in Vigo as part of the informative event on the HI MOV project receiving government support.
Renewable hydrogen for Galicia
The aim of this initiative, called Hi MOV, is to promote in Galicia and Portugal a value chain around green hydrogen. The event took place at the Cetmar facilities in Vigo and offered the project partners the opportunity to exchange experiences and proposals.
During his speech, Fernández Vila emphasized the importance of European projects such as HI MOV that deepen the knowledge of hydrogen applications and promote cooperation between areas. Furthermore, he stressed that projects like these are essential to promote the technology value chain, allowing Galicia to remain a global economy benchmark in the field of clean energy mobility.
The Managing Director also emphasized Xunta’s vision on the energy transition process and technological neutrality. On the one hand, he aimed for a gradual and planned transition, in which no one is left behind. And on the other hand he referred to a bet that It should not be done solely and exclusively through electrificationbecause, although it plays a fundamental role, it cannot prevent us from identifying the importance of other technologies, such as biogas, biomethane or hydrogen itself.
Along these lines, he showed the relevance of green hydrogen projects for the Galician government in various areas. For example, he pointed out the participation of the Ministry of Economy and Industry in the Research Promotion line at the request of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, which allowed the presentation of a project for the green hydrogen production from seawater. A project that exemplifies the challenges of the Xunta to provide more sustainable alternatives in the production of green hydrogen.
At the same time, Pablo Fernández Vila also emphasized that, among other challenges, the Galician government wants to promote the value chain of the green hydrogen economy and the development of technology that will enable ensure more efficient production processesthus significantly reducing energy consumption and the generation of polluting waste.
Finally, Pablo Fernández Vila thanked all the entities participating in the project for their cooperation. In addition to the coordination of the CTAG (Automotive Technology Center of Galicia), three other technology centers are involved, such as EnergyLab, PIEP and CEiiA and the universities of Santiago de Compostela, Minho and Porto. In addition, the BNP, AECT, the Petrotec company and the Ministry of Economy and Industry also collaborate through Inega (Energy Institute of Galicia).
The Galician government is determined to… a greater number of sustainable energy options within the province and green hydrogen is one of the most important.
