La Rioja will be the one who exercises the autonomous representation in the Committee on the Regulation of Deforestation of the European Commission during the first half of 2025.

The Government of La Rioja has been designated to represent the rest of the Spanish communities in the Committee on the Deforestation Regulation of the European Commission in the first half of 2025. The agreement reached with the rest of the autonomies and the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory will allow La Rioja to follow the meetings and debates of this body that assists the European Commission in the application of the EU Regulation on marketing and export of raw materials and products associated with deforestation and forest degradation.

Fight deforestation

The Committee on Regulation of Deforestation has recently been created within the so-called comitology processby which the various committees made up of representatives of the EU countries help the European Commission in its powers to implement European regulations.

In the Spanish case, the autonomous communities can participate in certain committees, such as the Deforestation Regulation Committee, in which La Rioja will be present next year. Thanks to this participation, the regional government will be able to closely monitor the application of this European standard that seeks protect forests and limit the commercialization of products that come from deforestation.

Recently, the first meeting of the Deforestation Regulation Committee was held, a meeting in which the representatives of La Rioja continued the discussion on the beginning of the application of the regulations and the implementation of an information system on the products affected by this community standard.

The community will be able to closely follow the meetings and debates of this committee that assists the European Commission in the application of the EU regulation on the marketing and export of raw materials and products associated with illegal logging and forest degradation.
