Secondly, the replacement of 1,000 m2 of common cane with a patch of 200 native shrubs, such as mastic (Pistacia lentiscus), aladier (Rhamnus alaternus), ballad (Nerium oleander) myrtle (Common myrtle), among others, which as a whole presents staggered flowering and fruiting that will allow food contributions to different faunal groups present in the environment.

In addition to the actions described, the Respect for water project It aims to have a social impact in the surroundings of Hero SA’s own facility in the municipality of Alcantarilla, generating a small peri-urban climate island. The planting of trees and shrubs in the alignment in more than 500 m of the river bank will improve the soil and microclimate conditions in this space, in turn favoring the infiltration of the agua.

The use of a deciduous tree species such as hackberry will provide shade to the path, reducing the thermal sensation during the summer months, and will allow the sun to enter in the autumn and winter months; This will make this space a more walkable and friendly area for passers-by, promoting its use as a place for recreation and enjoyment of the river space, giving the action a social character and health promotion through healthy leisure.

It is important to highlight, within the Respect for water projectthe promotion of environmental volunteering that Hero España has carried out in its internal community, raising awareness among its teams about current environmental problems.
