Madrid: they allocate funds to restore natural environments of the community

The Community of Madrid has invested more than a million euros in order to restore four natural environments. Thanks to this project, through which 1,500 new native plants will be planted, you can Recover the flora and fauna that were damaged by the extraction of quarry materials.

Restoring natural environments

The Community of Madrid has invested more than 1.3 million euros for Restore four natural environments damaged by the extraction of quarry materials. These are the great works of Soto de las Cuevas (Aranjuez), the El Campillo lagoon (Rivas Vaciamadrid), the quarries of Alpedrete and the Dehesa of the swallow (Navacerrada).

The Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Interior, Carlos Novillo, has visited the last rehabilitated space, in a public mountain with a rich biodiversity which is located on the shores of the Navacerrada reservoir and is included in the catalog of protected reservoirs in the region, in the Biosphere Reserve of the High Basin of the Manzanares River and the Natural Resources Management Plan of the Sierra de Guadarrama.

Native plants for Madrid

The process has been completed with the plantations of herbaceous native species, up to a total of 1,548 plants (1,212 tree and 336 of scrub). This will also improve fauna habitats, thus as the forest use that was done before the extractions.

In addition, the area has perimeted to protect vegetation until it has settledand two provisional paths have been maintained to allow access to the irrigation tank and make the water contribution necessary to ensure its growth, especially next summer. The initiative, with a budget of 169,131 euros, has been with European funds.
