Madrid will report on the execution of the Southwestern Green Walk, open an office for citizen attention

The City Council will open an office in December in the La Latina neighborhood for permanent citizen assistance, which will inform residents who request it, about the steps taken in the execution of the Southwestern Green Walk.

The Madrid City Council, through the Urban Planning, Environment and Mobility Area directed by Borja Carabante, will open a permanent citizen service office in the Latina district to inform residents who wish to do so about the project and development of the burying of the A-5 and the subsequent execution of the Paseo Verde del Suroeste on surface. The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, kicked off the work on October 11 and the effects on mobility are expected to begin at the end of the year.

Madrid informs

This citizen service facility will be located in the El Greco Cultural Center and will open its doors in December. It will remain operational for eight hours from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The space will have a screen where it will be displayed how the area will look and informative material.

Since last October 11, the cultural center has also exhibited the project mockup, a 3D prototype at a scale of 1:1000, 3.2 meters long by one meter wide, which shows how this great work of the mandate will look like.

Citizens will be able to see how the space currently occupied by the A-5 is going to be recovered for the city, sealing the gap between neighborhoods from Lucero, Aluche and Las Águilas with those from Campamento (Latina) and Casa de Campo (Moncloa-Aravaca).

The covering of the A-5 will allow continuity to the pedestrianized boulevard of Avenida de Portugal, which connects with Madrid Río, to Avenida del Padre Piquer, a burial that will affect 3.2 kilometers. The surface vehicles will be reduced by 90% and polluting emissions will also be reduced.

In addition to recovering the space occupied by the asphalt for the neighbors, it will improve pedestrian mobility in public transport and the road, resulting in the improvement of road safety in the environment. It will be able to solve the retention problems in conflictive connections such as the Paseo de Extremadura, Batán and Boadilla.

‘Soft’ mobility will be promoted thanks to the construction of a 3.5 kilometer bi-directional traffic signalized bike lane, which will start on Illescas Street and connect with the existing one on Portugal Avenue, thus linking with Madrid Río. In this way, the use of this means of transport to access the center will be promoted. On the surface, there will be wider sidewalks and 33 new pedestrian connections compared to the current 16, favoring transit on foot.

In order for the residents of Madrid to be aware of all the vicissitudes and advances related to the burying of the A-5 and the construction of the Southwestern Green Walk, is that the aforementioned information office will be opened.
