Management plan for the Penedos de Pasarela e Traba, a pioneering initiative in Galicia

The president of the Xunta de Galicia recently visited the natural area of ​​Penedos de Pasarela e Traba, which is located between the town councils of Vimianzo and Laxe and highlighted that the Management plan for said space is the first that is approved in the region.

The president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, highlighted today the implementation of the Penedos de Pasarela e Traba Management Plan, the first to be approved in Galicia to guarantee the protection and conservation of a protected landscape. “This will allow us to have planning and a budget to take full advantage of and take care of this space,” he indicated during a visit to this massif located between the A Coruña municipalities of Laxe and Vimianzo.

It is a unique natural space uniqueness and value of its geomorphologyfor the richness of its biodiversity and its geographical location, which makes it a natural balcony towards the Atlantic.

For this reason, during the tour of the area – in which he was accompanied by the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Ángeles Vázquez -, Rueda highlighted the importance of having a Management plan to “mark, organize and promote this space as a tourist resource«. Along these lines, he indicated that the Penedos fit the tourism that Galicia is committed to, “sustainable, landscape and environmentally friendly tourism.”

The management plan – published today in the Official Gazette of Galicia and which will come into force in 20 days – seeks to define the main values ​​of the area to be protected, the possible risks, as well as regulate the uses and activities that can be carried out in this natural space. It is endowed with almost €600,000 and includes nearly thirty measures both to preserve the natural space and to promote and disseminate its uniqueness and importance.

Among the initiatives that will be carried out will be the planting native treesthe elimination of invasive species, the inventory of toponymy and legends of the area, the cleaning and conservation of roads, the installation of new information panels and improvement of signage. It also includes studies on the effects of climate change in this space or the launch of guided tours led by a geologist and the development of new informative material, among other actions.

Protected space management plan

The Penedos of Pasarela e Traba, declared protected landscape in 2008make up a territory made up of a set of granite elevations that extend for 2.5 kilometers from north to south, between the municipalities of Vimianzo and Laxe.

He set stands out for its scientific value, since allows us to know the evolution of the landscape in this area due to its biodiversity with the presence of pine trees, meadows, laurel forests, riverside and carballeiras.

This instrument defines the values ​​to be protected, the possible risks in the area and regulates the activities that can or cannot be carried out in this granite complex. The Xunta has allocated €600,000 to implement nearly 30 priority measures to the preservation and protection of space, through the new management plan.
