DH2 Energy, together with MIBGAS, has developed the 1st. Iberian market auction dedicated to renewable hydrogen which will come from the Hysencia factory expected to be operational in 2027 and located in Aragon.
MIBGAS Derivatives, the operator of the Iberian gas futures market, and DH2 Energy, green hydrogen developer and producerlaunches the first auction for the purchase of renewable hydrogen on the Iberian market. The process begins tomorrow, Friday, November 15, with the publication of the documentation on the MIBGAS public website, for those interested in participating in this open auction.
Renewable hydrogen auction
The auction is intended for all companies interested in purchasing sustainable hydrogen, nationally and internationally, without restrictions regarding the type of hydrogen application. HE Depending on the supply volume, they will offer different lots and the duration of the contract, assuming a basic price for each of them.
The first phase is prequalification. The next phase will be the qualification phase and then another phase will be opened, exclusively among qualified companies, for the submission of offers. This final phase will be competitive. As a result, the companies presenting the best offers are selected and DH2 Energy will negotiate the final agreements bilaterally which, where appropriate, will give rise to the corresponding contracts.
Participants will be able to present offers for the purchase of renewable hydrogen generated by DH2 Energy’s Hysencia plant. The factory is located in Aragon and its construction is expected to start in mid-2025, while commissioning will take place in the first half of 2027.
The Hysencia power plant, with 35 MW electrolysis capacity, 49 MWp photovoltaic energy and 10 MW grid connection, is a groundbreaking initiative that won the first auction European, financed by the Innovation Fund, in the context of the European Hydrogen Bank.
Hysencia, which obtained the integrated environmental permit this yearis one of the first commercial green hydrogen projects on the Iberian Peninsula. The renewable hydrogen produced by Hysencia will contribute to the decarbonization of the industrial and mobility sectors.
The president of MIBGAS, Raúl Yunta, trusts that these types of projects will stimulate an incipient market needed in the process of decarbonization and energy transition. “At MIBGAS we are convinced of the potential of green hydrogen and projects like Hysencia are essential to lay the foundation for a renewable hydrogen market. “We are excited to help decarbonize through the development of the green hydrogen market.”
For his part, the General Manager of DH2 Energy, Marcos López-Brea Baquero, stated: “For the first time, the Iberian market operator is launching an auction of renewable hydrogen and is doing so with the production of DH2 Energy’s Hysencia plant, which it will are a reference in the sector. This auction represents a milestone for the development of renewable hydrogen and we are confident that this will help stimulate demand and promote the creation of a stable market for renewable hydrogen.”
This is a groundbreaking project that won the award first auction proposed in Europe, thanks to funding from the European Hydrogen Bank Innovation Fund, and is expected to be active in 2027.
