When the plants “they play”
From June to September 2024, five one-of-a-kind concerts will give life to a “vegetable symphony”.
The event, which will take place at AIR spacethe former slaughterhouse in Viale Molise in Milan, represents a sort of journey to discover the music of the universe, in which every leaf and every branch will ring his score.
Immersed in an unparalleled atmosphere, surrounded by the lush greenery of the plants, spectators will, in short, have the opportunity to enjoy a unique experience.
But how can plants “sound”?
Plants, living beings intelligent equipped with at least fifteen senses, they vibrate in harmony with their biological rhythm through imperceptible but significant sounds.
Several international studies reveal this. A research conducted atTel Aviv UniversityIsrael, for example, has discovered that plants produce a “noise” if subjected to stress. These high frequency vibrations, which the human ear cannot perceive, can be listen by insects or mammals.
Well, Edoardo Taoriarchitect of the project Plants Play Orchestrabut leads in one sensory journey through the plant kingdom, enraptured by the melodies that arise spontaneously from the leaves, flowers and tree trunks.
A musicologist by training and passionate about electronics, IT and botany, Taori has dedicated many years to researching plants and trees with singular musical abilities. But how is it possible to listen to their sounds?
Plants Play technology
The answer comes from technology Plants Play. Thanks to a wearable device, you will be able to listen to music generated directly by plants and trees.
In practice, the device is equipped with two sensors positioned on the leaves or stems of plants, which capture the electrical variations present in them. These signals come then converted in musical notes and sent in real time, via Bluetooth, to a dedicated application available for iOS/Android smartphones.
The plant thus becomes a composerthat is, writes a musical score through its electrical variations, while the Plants Play app acts as an executor, playing these notes with the timbres and sound design rules chosen by the user on the application.
Also, the function “plant activity” allows you to monitor the biorhythm of the plant through a graph generated in real time on the application.
Plants Play Orchestra: nature becomes music
Since 2018, Edoardo Taori has directed the Plants Play Orchestra, a fascinating orchestra made up of plants and trees, thus giving life to a new form of musical expression. The pinnacle of this musical adventure was reached in 2023, when Taori collaborated with the pianist Dario Faini, aka Dardus o DRD, per la performance “The Blooming Symphony” at the opening of the Sanremo Festival and with the actor Enrico Lo Verso for the show”Metamorphosis” in Italian theaters.
The new dates will be no different. Each concert will represent a unique opportunity to meeting between man and nature, enriched by the participation of extraordinary artists. Singer-songwriters such as In Arte Roger and Rossana De Pace are just some of the artists who will join the Plants Play Orchestra.
Plants Play Orchestra: a concert for the heart and the planet
Plants Play Orchestra is not only a spectacle for the eyes and ears, but also for the heart. Thanks to the collaboration with Green Future Projectevery ticket sold will contribute to the investment in a project planting of young trees mangroves in Madagascar, in the Marovolavo plantation, so as to support the regeneration of a precious ecosystem and improve the living conditions of the communities.
