The General Directorate of Environmental Evaluation and Quality of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) issued last year the Environmental Impact Declaration (DAY) of the seminatural wetlands of the green belt, Included in the framework of priority actions to recover the Mar Menor (MAPMM), designed to retain and eliminate nutrients before they arrive at La Laguna, the Mar Menor Technical Office reported Tuesday.
The Creation of these wetlands, one of the infrastructure included in the green belt, equipped with 52 million euros, will contribute to develop the ecological potential of the spaces surrounding the sea.A, to improve water quality by reducing nutrients and the reduction of suspended solids.
On the other hand will proceed to the withdrawal of the residual infrastructure of the main port and the environmental recovery of the spaces committed to said projectin addition to performing several actions in order to clean up and protect the aquifer.
Recover Mar Menor
The Technical Working Group (GTT) of the Priority actions framework to recover the Smaller sea (MAPMM), which is executed by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (Miteco), has been held at the headquarters of the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO-CSIC) in San Pedro del Pinatar (Murcia), where they have verified the state of execution of the projects and have reviewed the priority calendar for this year 2025.
During the meeting, the process of processing of the different projects included in the MAPMM has been addressed, endowed with 675.05 million euros, COpening the rhythm of execution of the remediation works of the Sierra Minera in the sets of the plain of the beal, downloader and brunite.
In addition, the miteco has been set among the priorities for this year 2025 the beginning of The works in the Green Belt, Phase II of the Restoration of Mining Ramblas and the Dunar Restoration on the Mediterranean Front.
Likewise, the calendar that manages the Ministerio Preesses to tender during this year the withdrawal of Puerto Mayor and the restoration of La Caleta del Estacio, the launch of the call to improve the sustainability of livestock farms in the Vertiente basin and the approval of the action programs of the underground water masses of the Cartagena Campo in a quantitative (Andalusian) and qualitative (quaternary) bad condition.
In addition, it is intended to tender for 2025 the flood park and the environmental recovery of Muñoz Zambudio Avenue until the mouth of the Rambla de la Pescadería, in Los Alcázares, which will mean the first work designed as a nature -based solution in an urban environment on the coast of Mar Menor.
Soon: Belich Project
The IEO-CSIC, attached to the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, is the body responsible for coordinating the project «Monitoring, study and modeling of the marine ecosystem of the Mar Menor ”, known as Belichwhich finances the miteco within the MAPMM and that arises in 2023 to continue the monitoring work and advance in the knowledge about the functioning of this ecosystem.
In the project more than twenty of scientific personnel from about 16 national and international organizations participate in the project, structuring in seven working groups, dedicated to the tuning and commissioning of One of the most important and advanced coastal marine ecosystems monitoring systems.
Before the GTT, Baraza meeting and several members of this group have visited the network of Monitoring for the control and monitoring of the Environmental State of Mar Menorwhich is issuing real -time information of the situation of the lagoon since last January after investing the General Directorate of the Coast and the sea 1.22 million euros.
Mar Menor Monitoring
These buoys and underwater sensorized platforms, included in line 8.1 of the MAPMM, are located in six points of the coastal lagoon to have the first monitoring network that offers in real time and continuously meteorological and oceanographic information throughout the Mar Menor. The system consists of three underwater buoys and platforms, two tideographers and a weather station.
Los points where the different elements of the network have been located are the north and south buckets, the central platformthe drags of the Station and Marchamalo, the General Air Academy and the Monitoring Center at the IEO headquarters in San Pedro del Pinatar.
This initiative It is framed in the Belich project, coordinated from the Oceanographic Center of Murcia IEO-CSIC) and included in the MAPMMwhich includes a total of 15.8 million euros to the improvement of scientific knowledge and monitoring.
The network provides very precise and reliable oceanographic data of high temporary resolution, which will be complementary to Those obtained by other monitoring systems of the lagoon and the waters of its slope, Underway or project, so that the alarm capacity of the system, as well as the diagnoses of its evolution, are as robust as possible and based on the maximum and better available scientific information.
Thus, the MAPMM also contemplates the improvement of the hydrological, geological and quality quality information network; numerical modeling of the hydrological and pollution cycle, especially diffuse by nitrogen and phosphorus; the hydrodynamic modeling and biogeochemical cycles of the lagoon and its impact on the Biota del Mar Menor; and an independent monitoring and evaluation system that integrates all the information and support to decision making.
On the other hand, the system supports the ongoing scientific research, in addition to promoting and evaluating new proposals, which will result in an advance in the complicated task of decision making by the technical teams of the competent administrations, on the actions and projects aimed at the protection and recovery of the Mar Menor.
