Extraordinary experience a Castellana Grotte in the province of Bari. The pupils of the second classes of the primary school of the Tauro Viterbo Comprehensive Institute were the protagonists of an experiential visit to the Masseria Redentain the heart of the Murgia Bari.

A day with bees

To welcome them, the spicy mimmo beekeeper, passionate popularizer and expert guide, has been able to accompany the young participants. All to discover the fundamental role of bees for the balance of ecosystems.

A journey into the complex organization of a hive, between foals, fires and queen bees, with a focus on “Dancing language” deciphered by the ethologist Karl von Frisch. The latter made it possible to understand how these insects communicate to each other to report the position of the sources of nectar. The bees, as Mimmo recalled, “They teach us the value of work, cooperation and respect for nature”.

In addition to the scientific part, there was no lack of practical workshops: the children made candles with beeswax, observed the action of earthworms in the production of humus starting from the equine manure and learned to recognize the spontaneous plants of the Mediterranean flora. The Masseria Redenta, an example of social and territorial redemption

Founded by Don Michele Stasollapioneer of the Rural School, the Masseria was one of the seven structures built to return dignity and future to the farmers of Santeramo in Colle, through the model of sharecropping. Its name recalls the Risorgimento history of the “Irredent”young Italians under foreign domination: a symbol of liberation and cohesion, which today is renewed in the values ​​of social ecology and agricultural regeneration.
