Science as a bridge between culture and the future. ENEA to More free books

FROM 4 TO 8 DECEMBER, ROME WAS THE STAGE OF THE NATIONAL SMALL AND MEDIUM PUBLISHING FAIR “MORE BOOKS, MORE FREE”A CULTURAL EVENT HOSTED IN THE SUGGESTIVE SETTING OF THE NUVOLA ALL’EUR. AMONG THE PROTAGONISTS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CAPTURE THE PUBLIC’S ATTENTION, ENEA STAND OUT WITH TWO STORIES FOR THE LITTLE CHILDREN. THANKS TO ITS INNOVATIVE APPROACH, ENEA HAS DEMONSTRATED HOW SCIENCE CAN BE TRANSFORMED INTO AN UNDERSTANDABLE AND ATTRACTING LANGUAGE, CAPABLE OF INSPIRING BOTH YOUNG PEOPLE AND ADULTS

ENEA at the fair: from the secrets of the sea to clean energy

ENEA is not only a center of excellence for scientific and technological research, but an institution that is actively involved in dissemination. During the fair More books, more freel’National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA) presented two illustrated publications aimed at younger people, “Sea eyes” e “Strong as the Sun”an interactive laboratory and a space for discussion with researchers.

“Sea Eyes”: a journey between wonder and environmental awareness

The book “Sea Eyes”written by Emanuela Fanelli, Ernesto Azzurro, Martin Troise e STefania Furiais a tribute to the Mediterranean, a sea that embodies a rich mix of nature, culture and history, but which today finds itself facing increasingly pressing environmental threats.

Set in the picturesque Gulf of Poetsin La Spezia, the illustrated story takes young readers on an imaginary journey through the eyes of Lisa and Giulio, two curious explorers who venture into the wonders and challenges of the sea depths.

The choice to set the story in this corner of Liguria is not accidental. The Gulf of Poets, famous for having inspired artists and writers of the caliber of George Gordon Noel Byron e Percy Bysshe Shelley it is a landscape and cultural jewel, as well as a reflection of the biodiversity of the Mediterranean.

However, like the entire Mediterranean basin, this natural paradise is also under siege: theplastic pollutionthe overfishing and climate change represents urgent and dramatic challenges.

Through a narrative that mixes imagination and scientific precision, “Sea Eyes” introduces readers to the fundamental concepts of marine biology, using simple but accurate language. The technical terms are carefully explained, which makes the book an ideal bridge between the fascination of discovery and the need to raise young people’s awareness of respect for the environment. Detailed illustrations amplify the viewing experience, turning each page into an invitation to wonder, learn, and act.

“Strong as the Sun”. The value of collaboration and sustainability

“Strong as the Sun”born from the project GECKO (Green Energy Community), promoted by ENEA together with University of Bologna et al Municipality of Bolognaaims to create sustainable energy communities, demonstrating how renewable energy can become a driver of solidarity and social progress.

The text, written by R. Tiziana Bruno and illustrated by Marina Cremoniniis an engaging story that addresses the theme of renewable energy through a poetic and evocative narrative.

The story takes place in an imaginary apartment building, where the light of a candle becomes a symbol of hope and change. This simple object, full of universal meanings, becomes the focus of a story it explores the value of collaboration and sustainability.

In the story, the light of the candle guides the characters and readers on a journey through the possibilities offered by clean energy sources. Each inhabitant of the building contributes a personal vision of the various environmental challenges. It then formulates creative and collaborative solutions to promote responsible use of resources and ensure equitable access to energy. Through various points of view, the story illustrates how change is possible only with collective commitment and the adoption of conscious practices.

In short, it is an invitation to look beyond present difficulties and imagine a tomorrow in which energy, heat and light are universal rights. With its ability to inspire and engage, the book stands as an educational and cultural tool of great value, capable of igniting in young readers the awareness of being an active part of change.

Interactive laboratories: science becomes experience

ENEA’s participation in the fair “More Books, More Free” was not limited to the presentation of the two volumes. Among the events organised, the laboratory “Magic of Chemistry” in the Children’s Space it proved to be a very successful moment. Agency researchers guided the children in practical experiments and demonstrationsrevealing how chemistry is deeply intertwined with everyday life, from soap bubbles to food preservation. This initiative transformed science into an engaging and fun experience, which stimulated questions and fueled the children’s natural spirit of discovery.

In an era of great global challenges, ENEA has demonstrated that investing inscientific education and in the disclosure it is an essential path to building a future in which innovation and sustainability go hand in hand. Children’s curiosity, ignited by these experiences, will be the first step towards the change that the world needs.
