A company develops ideas to use it turquoise hydrogen instead of those of other colors to have a more sustainable production. The most important advantage would be that no CO2 emissions are created. Therefore, the company hopes to reach 2026, on the path to a low-carbon economy.
Turquoise hydrogen has received a lot of attention lately because it is a great sustainable alternative, but it is known as a precious commodity, because it is thought to be very difficult to obtain. However, this Japanese company is adapting this type of hydrogen to its productions and getting the most out of it.
The Ebara company promotes the use of turquoise hydrogen
The Japanese industrial machinery manufacturer Ebara produces pumps and other equipment for hydrogen systems. A new method is being developed to market turquoise hydrogen as an emission-free fuel.
According to this company, turquoise hydrogen is proposed as the best option to use for several reasons, the first of which is precisely that of zero carbon dioxide emissionssomething they find very important. On the other hand, it is not that difficult to achieve this.
The company, based in Tokyo, Japan, has already started testing this project in 2022 and continues to improve its tactics, as it believes it is crucial to harness this energy. It also collaborates with the National Institute of Materials Sciences, the University of Shizuoka and the materials manufacturer Taiyo Koko. Moreover, it was commissioned by the New Energy and Industrial Technologies Development Organization.
“We are considering working with carbon manufacturers as our goal is to sell high quality solid carbon.” explained Shinya Yoshihama, Ebara’s marketing manager.
What is hydrogen turquoise and how is it different from other colors?
Hydrogen is one of the noblest materials of all because it is literally in abundance. Yet existence is not the same as adaptability for the use of the material, because sometimes it has to go through certain processes in order to use it correctly. In the case of turquoise hydrogen, it does not exist as such in nature, but must go through a human process to be created.
Hydrogen consists of a proton and one electronIt is also an energy vector, which means that it is energy that can be transported and stored. There are different types of hydrogen that are defined by color.
The most common is green hydrogen, produced by electrolysis of water with electricity generated from renewable energy sources. There is also the gray hydrogenthat has been reformed from natural gas and the blue hydrogenwhich also comes from natural gas, but captures emissions.
On the other hand there is the turquoise hydrogenthe production process is called methane pyrolysis. This process consists of decomposing methane gas into hydrogen and solid carbon, at high temperatures, in the absence of oxygen.
How turquoise hydrogen works
The main advantages are related to the fact that No carbon dioxide emissions are produced, but solid carbon is generated.which can be very useful for industrial production or building materials. Moreover, turquoise hydrogen is more sustainable and cleaner for the same reasons.
This type of hydrogen is used as a fuel fuel cell vehiclesin processes that require hydrogen, such as, for example oil refining or ammonia production and, most logically, for the storage of sustainable energy and the generation of electricity.
