Minister Pablo Bustinduy closed this Thursday IV Congress for Animal Rights announcing the launch of the first State action plan against abandonment of companion animals and to promote adoption.
Pablo Bustinduy, Minister of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030, has announced that he is the first State action plan against abandonment of companion animals and to promote adoption. This was stated at the conclusion of the IVth Animal Rights Congress, organized by the ministry he heads and in which experts from different parts of the animal world participated to tackle the problem of neglect.
“Empathizing with the suffering of animals, by considering animals as part of our families and our environment, builds a more just and humane country,” said Pablo Bustinduy at the closing of this meeting. Congressorganized by the Directorate General for Animal Rights with the aim of achieving the «Zero abandonment» in Spain according to the premise of the Animal Welfare Act achieving the «zero sacrifice» of animals in our country.
Mass identification of pets such as dogs, cats and ferrets
To achieve the national challenge of ending neglect, the Ministry of Social Rights is working on the measures that will comprise this plan and will address, among other things, the need to conduct an investigation mass identification of pets such as dogs, cats and ferrets. In the same way, rules will be developed that make better possible control of livestock farming activities and this way limit irregular reproduction.
Another important part of this plan will refer to the pet adoptionan activity that will be promoted at the state level with specific strategies and awareness campaigns. In addition, support will be offered to entities engaged in the protection and shelter for abandoned animals. ‘We’re going to show that Spain is no longer the country of past abuse and suffering for animals. In addition to the fight against neglect, the plan will also focus on responsible animal ownership. On the other hand, the plan itself will include some of the proposals launched during this plan Congress which was held in Madrid, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Social Rights, during the roundtable discussions with experts in veterinary, animal, environmental and other fields such as breeding or anthrozoology.
