“Terra – the planet in five senses”: an immersive journey to discover the earth
From 3 April to 31 August 2025, in the spaces of Technotown – Hub of creative science of Roma Capitale in Villa Torlonia, the public will be able to explore the exhibition “Terra – the planet in five senses”. The event, organized byNational Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (Ingv) To celebrate the twenty -fifth anniversary of its foundation, it will offer a unique multisensory experience of its kind.
Promoted by Roma Capitale – Department of School, Training and Work, the exhibition is carried out with the support of Epos (European Plate ObSering System) and Zètema Project Culture. The exhibition offers an interactive path focused on five senses. Visitors will be able to directly perceive some of the most relevant natural phenomena through smell, taste, touch, hearing and vision.
Human senses, essential tools to interact with the environment
Human senses, essential tools to interact with the environment, guide the public on an immersive journey to discover the Earth system. The path explores the internal structure of the planet, its geological and environmental evolution, the natural risks, the processes that regulate climate change. Therefore, the importance of the sustainable use of natural resources.
Designed and curated by the Ingv in collaboration with the Design Dotdotdot study, the exhibition also makes use of the contribution of associations engaged in promoting inclusion and accessibility to cultural heritage.
Among these, the Volunteer Association Museum-ODV, the Sordi Rome State Institute (ISSR), AAA-ALSE AREA AREA (Monk Roma, Co-Founded by European Union) and the must-University Museum of Terra della Sapienza University of Rome.
The public in the center of the experience
“Terra – the planet in five senses” It places the public in the center of the experience, offering a new way of perceiving geosciences in daily life. The exhibition stimulates curiosity, enriches personal interests and increases awareness through the tangible representation of often invisible natural phenomena.
The exhibition offers visitors an immersive experience that allows you to listen to seismic waves, observe the Earth’s magnetic field and perceive The warmth of the earth. The public can also access a faithful reproduction of the seismic surveillance room and tsunami alert of the Ingv headquarters and test the vibrations of a seismic event through a vibrant table.
A cycle of scientific dissemination meetings
To enrich the event, a cycle of meetings with Ingv experts will offer insights on the scientific issues faced by the exhibition.
The official inauguration will be held on Wednesday 2 April at 18:00, with the participation of the President of the Ingv and the Councilor in the School, Training and Labor of Roma Capitale, Claudia Pratelli. Following, the artist Filippo Gregoretti will present the work “Matra – The song of the planet”exposed as part of the exhibition.
The exhibition will be open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9:30 to 19:00, with the last entrance at 18:00. The entrance ticket will have a symbolic cost of 1 euro per person, while the booking will be mandatory for groups and schools. To celebrate the official opening to the public, a guided tour followed by the seminary will be held on Thursday 3 April at 17:30 “From Alban Hills to the Sicily Canal: journey through the active volcanoes of Italy”edited by Ingv researchers.
