As a result of these images of evident animal abusethe farm was removed from the Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) assurance scheme. The scheme, endorsed by the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA), is funded by the taxpayer and councilors are appointed by Scottish ministers.

Following its £290 million takeover in 2019, the QPL abattoir is now owned by US company Pilgrim’s Pride – one of the largest food companies in the world – which is responsible for supplying around 25% of the total pork produced in Great Britain Britain is consumed. such as about 33% of the country’s chicken meat. With 79% of shares outstanding, Pilgrim’s Pride is largely controlled by Brazilian livestock giant JBS, the largest meat company in the world.

Animal Equality has reported the facts to the Animal Plant and Health Agency and the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals so that all responsibility can be determined.
