The project “ATMOSPHERE”, Promoted by Garc Ambiente and in collaboration with Unimore, Arpae and the Municipality of Carpi, sees the involvement of a group of students from the ITIS Da Vinci, of the Emilian town. The initiative aims to expand students’ skills in the scientific and environmental fields
An educational and scientific project
The students of the fifth year with an environmental chemical address ofItis da Vinci of Carpi (Modena), with the support of Unimore, Harpoe and of the Municipality, will participate in the “Atmosphere” project, which aims to monitor the air quality of the city. The initiative not only provides an educational opportunity, but also aims to raise awareness of the population regarding environmental issues and air quality. The results obtained will be disclosed to citizenship, contributing to the formation of a collective consciousness on the risks deriving from the climbing compounds.
The role of unimore and the monitoring network
Professor Alessandro Bigi of the Enzo Ferrari engineering Department of Unimore will coordinate the project, making available to students the instrumentation necessary for the realization of a monitoring pilot network. This network, consisting of low -cost compact and portable sensors, will allow the measurement of nitrogen oxides (Noₓ) and Ozono (O₃) in four strategic points of Carpi. In addition, the project will have the support of Arpae, which will provide the data necessary to calibrate the instrumentation and guarantee its reliability.
A direct experience for students
The students involved in the project will have the opportunity to acquire new knowledge of air quality and the management of monitoring networks. In particular, they will learn to manage and analyze the data relating to the variability of the concentrations of atmospheric pollutants in areas of the Municipality where no monitoring have been carried out so far. In addition, they will have the opportunity to experiment with advanced technologies for the measurement of pollutants and to better understand the instrumental uncertainty associated with the collected data.
Air quality: a global problem
Professor Alessandro Bigi underlines the importance of addressing the problem of air quality, which has been identified as one of the main health-environmental risk factors globally. Despite the progress made in recent decades, air quality remains a crucial question, which requires competence and commitment to improve environmental conditions. In this context, the project “Atmosphere” It is part of an important initiative that aims to sensitize and form the new generations.
Unimore and environmental monitoring
This activity is part of the collaborations between Unimore and the Municipality of Carpi, but also represents an example of atmospheric monitoring that the University has been realizing for years, both nationally and internationally. Unimore, in fact, is involved in research projects that use portable instruments for the study of atmospheric and climbing pollutants, in collaboration with research bodies and local administrations. This approach contributes to the evaluation of air quality and the protection of public health.
