The Government of Extremadura is committed to the sustainable management of forests

The advisor of the Government of Extremadura, Ignacio Higuero, has recently reaffirmed the Government commitment to sustainable management and the recovery of the mountains of the Extremadura community, which have been affected by fires.

The Minister of Forestry Management and the Rural World, Ignacio Higuero, participated today in the ‘Comprehensive Model of Agroforestry Management in the Árrago Valley’ conference held in Cargamaría, where he reaffirmed the commitment of María Guardiola’s Government to the sustainable management of mountains and the recovery of forests affected by forest fires.

The mountains are essential

Ignacio Higuero, who has been accompanied by the general director of Fire Prevention and Extinction, José Antonio Bayón, has stressed that “we must have sustainable forests, forests that generate life, forests that establish population and This forest model will help us prevent fires«.

Likewise, he has defended the ‘Mosaico’ project and the traditional use of livestock, timber, mycological, hunting and resin resources “working with the people of the countryside, with the people of the area, for the future of these beautiful regions.”

The day has been organized by the Árrago Valley Forest Owners Association to highlight the forestry actions that the group will carry out together with other collaborating entities, within the framework of different projects for the environmental recovery of the area. These efforts focus on the adaptation of the mountains to large fires through the resilience of forest masses.

During the meeting, several very innovative projects were highlighted, such as productive firewalls, creation of multispecific and multifunctional massesextensive grazing and carbon fixation.

These initiatives of the Board not only seek the recovery of the Árrago Valley, but also promote the implementation of a circular and green economy and a bitter fight against depopulation, which are key elements to manage the mountains of Extremadura.
