Friday 9 May, Parma hosts the seminar “The restoration of marine ecosystems: when to keep it is not enough”. The event, organized by Milometroverde parsa E Ada – Environmental Women AssociationRepresents the last meeting of the cycle “Climate change changes the Mediterranean”Supported by the Municipality and the University of Parma and in collaboration with the Parma company of Natural Sciences
A sea that warms: alarming data and visible consequences
The Mediterranean is today one of the planet’s climatic hotspots. According to the most Recent IPCC reportthe surface temperature of the seas has already exceeded by about 1.5 ° C the pre -industrial levels, with effects ranging from the redistribution of marine species to the intensification of extreme events such as underwater heat waves.
These changes put essential marine habitats at risk for biodiversity and the balance of the ecosystem, such as the prairies of Posidonia and the coralcallic cliffs.
In this context, the only conservation is no longer enough. It is necessary to act actively for the restoration of damaged marine environments, through techniques based on scientific research and direct observation of the change in progress.

From conservation to restoration: a new environmental paradigm
“The restoration of marine ecosystems is fundamental for environmental sustainability”says Loredana Casoria, general secretary of Milometroverde parsa. “We must go beyond the passive defense of nature and adopt a proactive approach, capable of reconstructing the lost balance”.
The seminar therefore wants not only to inform but also raise awareness of citizenship about how each one, at different levels, can contribute to the rebirth of ecosystems.
The protection of the sea is not only an environmental question but directly involves the health, nutrition and well -being of human communities. Regenerating the compromised natural systems means investing in the future of present and future generations.
The role of citizenship in the fight against climate change
According to Rosalba Lispi, president of theEnvironmental Women Association, Adathe involvement of the population is essential: «Ecological restoration cannot be left alone in the hands of specialists. The entire society must participate in change, adopting behaviors and policies that favor real sustainable development ».
The seminar will therefore also offer a space for reflection on the active role that citizens can take on in the protection of marine ecosystems.
The debate on climate change and marine ecosystems
The seminar is held on May 9, 2025, at 17:30 in the La Place al Le Village by room, in via Cavestro 3a. Guest of the meeting The Professor Mariachiara Chiantore, Marine Biologist ofUniversity of Genoa and co-coordinator of the National Biodiversity Centerwhich will illustrate the current scientific strategies for the recovery of marine ecosystems deeply altered by climate change.
The meeting is free and open to all, with reservation recommended through the Eventbrite channel of KilometroverdeParma (until the 55 seats are exhausted). The chosen format aims to make accessible to all content of high scientific value, stimulating a dialogue between experts and public.
