The water reserve in Spain according to ecological transition ‘today’ May 20, is 43,407 cubic hectometers, 77.5 percent of its capacity: the water reserve go up again and reach the 12 consecutive weeks growing. On this occasion, the reservoirs have increased their capacity 0.33 points in the last week, so 77.4% of their total capacity are already established.
It is, in fact, the highest figure of the last 11 years, since to see similar levels you have to go back to week 33 of the 2013-2014 hydrological year, when the reserve exceeded 80%.
This is extracted from the figures published on Tuesday by the Ministry for Ecological Transitionthat publishes the data of the reservoirs every week. According to this organism, the rains during the last seven days They have been “abundant” throughout the peninsula And the maximum has occurred in Lugo, with 55.8 liters per square meter.
These rainfall have made the water reserve increase its total in 173 cubic hectometers of water, so that the reservoirs already store a very considerable amount: 43,407 cubic hectometers.
In this way, with all the rains of recent months, the reserve presents a situation Very different compared to what happened a year ago. In 2024, the reservoirs counted in this week of the year with 37,100 cubic hectometers of water, so they settled at 66.3%, that is, up to 11 percentage points below the current ones.
The same happens if we compare the figures of this week of 2025 with those of the average of the last ten years of this same period. This is to 63.6% with 35,600 cubic hectometers, which is equivalent to the reservation is currently up to 15 points above those numbers.
The Spanish water reserve is 77.5% of its total capacity
The reservoirs currently store 43,407 cubic hectometers (HM³) of water, increases in the last week in 173 cubic hectometers (0.3% of the current total capacity of the reservoirs).
The water reserve by field is as follows:
- Eastern Cantabrian is 89%
- Western Cantabrian at 92.2%
- Miño-Sil at 87%
- Galicia Costa at 80.1%
- Internal basins of the Basque Country to 95.2%
- 92.6% Duero
- 85.9%
- Guadiana at 70.9%
- Red, Odiel and 91.7% stones
- Guadalete-Barbate at 54.9%
- Guadalquivir at 61.1%
- Andalusian Mediterranean Basin at 57.6%
- Safe at 31,%
- Júcar at 64.1%
- Ebro at 89.4%
- Internal Basins of Catalonia at 79.8%
Precipitation has been abundant throughout the peninsula. The maxim has occurred in Lugo with 55.8 mm (55.8 l/m²).
The situation of the basins, in cubic hectometers, is detailed in the attached table:
