WHITE FADES: art, science and climate change

THE EXHIBITION “WHITE EXPIRES” DISCOVER THE COMBINATION BETWEEN ART AND SCIENCE, AND DEFINE THE SUBJECT OF CLIMATE CHANGE IN THE ARCTIC REGIONS THROUGH THE WORK OF ITALIAN ARTIST ROBERTO GHEZZI. The exhibition, curated by MARA PREDICATOS and promoted by the Italian Institute of Culture in OSLO, represents the fruit of years of artistic and scientific research carried out in collaboration with the CNR – INSTITUTE OF POLAR SCIENCES

An artistic-scientific project dedicated to the climate

“WHITE FADES” is an ambitious project, the result of studies and research into the Arctic, present atItalian Cultural Institute in Oslo, until November 15. The works of Roberto Ghezzi they are the result of two artistic residencies, one in Greenland (Tassilang) and the other op Spitsbergen Islands (Norway), made in collaboration with the CNR ISP (Institute of Polar Sciences).

In these experiences the artist let it be melting ice to create his works, producing washed-out cyanotypes and videos documenting the dramatic melting of glaciers.

Nature speaks through the art of Roberto Ghezzi

Characteristic of Ghezzi’s work is his minimal direct intervention. The artist carefully prepares his supports, but allow natural phenomena to exist, such as water, air and ice, to mark the works. This approach makes it possible for nature “speak” through art, creating traces that become visual and, in some cases, scientific evidence of ongoing climate change.

Even science can connect with art

The project is carried out in collaboration with scientists from National Research Council and, on this occasion, with the protection of Center for Contemporary Art Palazzo Lucarini Contemporary and the support of Cartiera Magnani Pescia and Phoresta ETS.

For example, the intervention of scientists such as Fabiana Corami e Biagio di Mauro of the CNR, has led to interesting discoveries about the consequences of global warming in the polar regions.

An invitation to think about climate change

The exhibition is not only an opportunity to immerse yourself in the contemplation of undisputed artistic works aesthetic fascination but also to think about the climate change making progress and questioning ourselves about human actions in relation to what is happening.
